PUBLIC FUNDS AND POWERS OF EFCC

If we are truly being guided by the provisions of the 1999 Constitution while carrying out our responsibilties to the society, an agency like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) cannot initiate investigations on the expenditure of the public funds of any State government or even prosecute its officials sleeped in corrupt activities.

This position is being maintained because the 1999 Constitution is quite clear that on the matters of initiating investigations to expose corruption in the finances of State governments or even to prosecute their officials involved in financial misdemeanours, it is the Legislature (House of Assembly) and the polite that have the constitutional powers to embark on such endeavours.
